“Talked to a friend tonight who just moved into a $700K rental apartment at UBC. The wood-framed building, on leased land, is two years old and floors are already sagging.”

“Talked to a friend tonight who just moved into a rental apartment at UBC. Building is two years old and floors are already sagging, so much that her closet doors keep opening by themselves, and drawers have a hard time staying closed…
Market value? $700,000, for a wood frame condo on leased land.”

  1. Check out the new ‘green’ condo development at the south campus called Yu – can anyone give opinion on construction quality?

  2. jobs print 69k vs 150k expectations … just in time for june fomc … and just a teensy bit coincidental? http://tinyurl.com/77rdljg

    • thanks, got one already

      • 1. How are floorboards and download rates similar?

      • confused … it pulled up kindle fire when i clicked … which, i got to replace a stolen ipad1 … it’s ok … my experience, fwiw -> ipad was nice but no way to do any work and it was starting to misbehave – probably compatibility issues between the old hw and constantly updating sw … so, too heavy and expensive for just reading and music (imo) … kfire is definitely kloogier and i don’t like the mp3 formats but it’s small and cheap and i can get by carrying it + ipod shuffle … got a hold of samsung tablet / win8 for a try earlier in the year … they’re getting pretty close

  4. if the floors are sagging, it may be the builder skimped on a concrete pad, or the concrete pad is not level. Houses take some time to settle, and you see the sagging. Unfortunately during a housing boom, or speculative boom, it draws in marginal tradesman who do not have the intrinsic mathematical skills to build a squared house (they ain’t gonna make it as freemasons)
