“The End of Your Nose.” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

I see the “hot offshore money myth” is
still the subject du jour. There is little hope
for mankind when when you can’t see
beyond the end of your nose.

willfully blind consumers
+ easy cheap credit

“This City is different.” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

A recent children’s figure skating performance
at Sunset
brought in an inordinate number
of BMW, Land Rover,
and Mercedes.
I watched it all
while sorting through garbage
looking for cans
for deposit.
.
This City is different all right.
The kicker was the 7 series Bimmer
double parked at the entrance.
Any other town
I’d say it was a drug deal.

“When The Water Came” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

Market busts are like flooding a basement.
It’s amazing how much dirt there was
embedded in the old carpet,
that floated to the surface when the water came.

“Bolus Of Hope” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

For those who have experienced
a failed startup,
each week it’s like watching
a perpetual photocopy of reality,
all in the name of perseverance
and “stick-to-it-edness”,
aided by a bolus of hope.

How many homeowners have awoken
covered in sweat at 4am
and realised,
as clear as day,
they are beyond any hope of recouping their investments.
That’s a sobering moment, and,
perhaps in a fit of irony,
is more often than not elicited
in a dream-like state.

“Tsawwassen Be Damned” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

I live in East Vancouver
and I could drive out to Tsawwassen
in less time than it takes for me
to creep west in my morning
bumper
to
bumper
convoy of the damned.

“I’m rich!” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

I’ve borrowed
so much money
that I’m rich!

“I’m Peeved” [‘Vancouver RE-Verse'; Found Poem]

I’m peeved

I confess I am really angry that I have to
leave the city I was born and raised in
(where my parents and grandparents grew up)
because I can no longer afford to live here.

Why is it that we are working
more and more
but can afford
less and less.
