“The result of this simple math? – Moving scheduled for spring/summer next year.”

“My wife and I work full time and study non-stop, household income is around 80k (after tax)… the same jobs pay 20 – 30 % more in other places and cost of living is 20 – 30% less, the result of this simple math? – moving scheduled for the spring/summer next year.”

  1. Would you be considered a ‘slave’ if you bought a condo instead of a house? Just because you make good money doesn’t mean you are ENTITLED to living on the west side in a detached house.

    • where did entitled west side detached get into this? pls elaborate. btw, i might know a bit about that. i attended kdale/point/ubc. lived dunbar/larch/angus. dad’s a retired builder. put up something people can discuss. otherwise, it can only be about trying to understand why you keep tantruming every time someone refuses the koolaid.

    • I think “slave” should be defined by the ratio of debt load to income, not by the type of property you buy.

Entitlement is irrelevant. The point is: the overall value proposition of Vancouver is weak. I look at the salaries and overall affordability of here vs other cities and I see a much better lifestyle for my family elsewhere.

      Homeowner,

I normally don’t go for personal attacks, but you sir, are a complete moron. Your continued diatribes against anyone who sees the current scene in Vancouver for what it is are half-witted and ignorant. I’m sure you think you are very intelligent because you are a ‘homeowner’. The ‘where’ of living in the lower mainland is largely irrelevant, because it’s all disproportionate to people’s real incomes. Why you think that someone is wanting a handout to live on the west side when they run the numbers and find the result wanting is simply beyond me. For the record, I wouldn’t choose the west side of Vancouver – it’s nowhere near my work or my wife’s work, and I find the houses generally fit for demolition.

I’m sure you feel very satisfied that you own a home on the west side and that your superior intellect is what brought you this opportunity. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you got lucky. Just like you will be unlucky when this insanity unravels itself and you, and a lot of others who bought into the ‘buy a house, win the lottery’ mania, will be stuck with houses that are underwater and a economy that will be so deep in the quicksand you better hope the grow-ops convert to hemp so they can throw you a rope to pull yourself out.

      • Haha, this actually cracked me up.

I don’t get why all the hatred and calling this guy a moron. I personally don’t agree with his point but I don’t see how his point is at all more offensive than calling vancouverites who don’t sell delusional. Again, if there is prior history, please enlighten. There are bulls and there are bears on this board, I am assuming that both are welcomed. This is why I like being in the middle, haha.

@Julian Lee: There is pretty much one person using several handles to deliver the same tripe again and again and again. The balls out cowardice shown by changing names after you get your arguments dismantled – or the inanity of having conversations with yourself (WTF?) – is easy to deride. This person’s posts, most times, are attacking in nature (something I agree can be delivered by bulls, bears, and everyone in between).

Very rarely, this individual will engage on a specific point and his/her arguments will pretty effectively be dismantled (well, unless they’re ignored – which is happening more and more). After this, this individual will then revert to ad hominem attacks and/or claim that a person holding your perspective couldn’t possibly exist (e.g. many of us couldn’t possibly be young and with families [having only been out of school and in the work force for a couple years] and earning good/great money, yet completely unwilling to buy into this market today).

You can also skip the argument on whether Vancouver prices are justified or not and delve into the issue of young local people leaving the city, but this individual will usually disappear at this point. When he/she doesn’t avoid the topic, you will read bon mots such as the claim that lost doctors we paid to train can be easily replaced by MDs from non-English speaking countries abroad.

I’ll leave it to someone else to describe the shenanigans of a poster called eyesthebye (same individual) at other sites as I’ve not frequented these places enough to spell it out.

Or: bullish opinions are attacked here because they are so pervasive IRL in Vancouver, where the ganging up, at least in my experience, can be the reverse.

Mostly though, dude has terrible netiquette (or whatever you want to call it) and hence deserves the flack he gets. Frankly, if I was on this site as someone with a bullish perspective, I’d call the jackass out given that everyone will just assume my bullish opinions are coming from this sad pair of clown shoes.

    • Hey fair point but they never said westside. The problem is their peers have a different standard of living and that makes some people “consider their options”. Not saying good or bad, right or wrong, it just is.
